Advanced Practice Clinicians Working Group PDF Print E-mail

In 1996, a national meeting of medical and advocacy groups recognized advanced practice clinicians (APCs) as an important resource for addressing the growing shortage of abortion providers.  Since that time, efforts by AAP and other organizations have helped establish APCs as providers of abortion care in several states, expanding access for thousands of women.

The APC Working Group is a consortium of organizations that, through various initiatives and projects, works to advance the scope of practice of APCs.  Formed in 2003, the group come together to update each other, brainstorm/strategize, look for areas of synergy, avoid duplication of effort and work in concert wherever possible.  The aim of the APC Working Group is to provide coordinated support and to facilitate local state stakeholders’ efforts to advance scope of work of advanced practice clinicians to include abortion.
