"I've really appreciated is AAP's focus on sustainability. Rather than saying, ‘We have this experience, this is how you should do it,' they say, ‘You know the local needs; we'd like to provide the resources and support so you can do what you need to do, and ideally not need our help in two or three years.'"
Debra Stulberg, a family physician and co-founder of the Midwest Access Project

The promotion of sustainable solutions is an important part of AAP's core organizational strategy. Collaborations through projects and around issues are critical to maintain ongoing change.  AAP seeks to maximize stakeholder ownership, investment, expertise and commitment within our programs, strongly bonding the work to those who will ultimately be responsible for the project's sustainability.  Further, AAP builds forums for exchange through which to share expertise and strategies, as well as incite cooperative action.

AAP has co-founded the Training and Access Working Group, a unique forum that brings together twice a year representatives of 43 groups actively working to make change in areas concerning reproductive health and rights; the APC Working Group, formed of national organizations working to establish APCs as abortion providers; the Self-Induced Abortion Working Group, a forum for coordination and shared learning across organizations and disciplines regarding a range of issues relating to the abortion induced outside healthcare settings; and the ROE Consortium for Nursing, a national coalition of state and national nursing leaders and faculty founded and run by AAP that is a leader in national curriculum reform efforts for abortion in nursing education.
