Abortion care is healthcare |
|
|
|
Healthcare services may be difficult for individual
patients to access for a number of reasons. However, the political charge and
stigma attached to abortion create
unique and substantial barriers to access. The Stupak/Pitts Amendment,
which seeks to include language restricting abortion coverage, presents a
threat to abortion access. The Abortion Access Project believes that
no woman should be
worse off as a result of health care reform. Here are ways that colleague organizations have organized
to remove the Stupak-Pitts abortion coverage
ban:
- To have your voice heard, you can sign the petition to Stop Stupak. You can also generate an e-mail or letter to your Senator directly from the
National Organization for Women (NOW) Web site. NOW is also looking for
activists to participate in rallies in several different cities.
- A lobby day will be held on Capitol
Hill on Wednesday, December 2. If you are able, you can join reproductive health and rights
organizations to continue the pressure on Congress to protect women's right to
abortion coverage. To RSVP or sign up to receive updates on the lobby day,
please click here. Please set up appointments with your legislators
throughout the day to remind them why abortion coverage is critically important.
To make an appointment, call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Click here.
- If you cannot be in Washington on December 2, you can also
be
active from home. In addition to signing the Stop StupakYou can join
thousands of others on December 2 by sending letters, e-mails,
faxes, and making phone calls to show your solidarity with those in Washington, and to ensure
your voice is heard. Finally,
you can amplify your
voice by encouraging your colleagues, spouses, and friends to get
involved too. petition, you can also make appointments with
legislators in your district.
