This past year, AAP engaged in a comprehensive strategic assessment and planning process, bringing together staff, our Board of Directors, field organizers and external colleagues and allies to think and plan around the issue of abortion and the role it plays in creating an environment in which women and girls can be their strongest, healthiest and most fully-realized selves.

We asked ourselves: how could we have our greatest possible impact on the health and rights of women? We answered this question by envisioning AAP as a leading innovator and collaborator around some of the biggest gaps in abortion access and made the elimination of disparities in access our highest goal.

This has led to some exciting program developments. While we continue to engage and support a wide variety of health professionals in delivering abortion care, we are shifting our focus onto providers that serve rural and low-income women: two of the biggest gaps in access. Because health care providers need places to train, we are working to expand these opportunities. And we are developing strategies to reach women in those states with the least access and fewest organized resources.

Access to safe abortion is one of many necessary conditions in women’s lives. As one of the most publicly politicized and stigmatized options for women it is also one of the most difficult and fragile.

Please join us as we build innovative programs that will make abortion care equally accessible to all.
