AAP’s work is guided by several core strategic elements that together define the approach that we believe will enable us to have the greatest possible impact in achieving our core purpose. Our core strategy is used to guide organizational decision making as we strive to create programming that meets each element contained within.
- We look for gaps in abortion access that no one else is addressing and seek to create and support innovative responses to these gaps.
- We seek to catalyze changes within health care and reproductive health activism that increase the participation of a wide range of health care providers in providing and connecting women to abortion care and that result in the increased accessibility of abortion.
- We work with local partners to achieve locally-driven, locally-relevant goals, and coordinate and connect this work to national organizations also interested in expanding access.
- We strive to create and support initiatives that we believe can impact not only the local situation but also inform and inspire broader, systemic improvements in the way abortion is delivered/accessed.
- We maintain a commitment to project sustainability, supporting the development of local capacity to support future activity, and ensuring sufficient momentum to maintain positive gains.
- We will enter projects with clearly defined criteria for success, and a clear definition of our role and anticipated length of engagement.
- We will clearly define our outcome objectives (what we want to achieve for women's access), what we hope to learn from the project about bigger systemic problems/solutions, and what capacity we strive to build locally (for sustainable outcomes or further project achievements).
